Ratio Of Ast / alt And Serum Gamma Glutamyl Transferase ( ggt ) Activity In Chronic Alcoholics And Acute Viral

چکیده
Introduction-Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT), also known as Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase, is a micorsomal enzyme with a wide tissue distribution. GGT is present in the cell membranes of many tissues, including the kidneys, bile duct, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen, heart, brain, and seminal vesicles.[1]It is involved in the transfer of amino acids across the cellular [2] [3] membrane and leukotriene metabolism. It is also involved in glutathione metabolism by transferring the glutamyl moiety to a variety of acceptor molecules including water, certain L-amino acids, and peptides, leaving the cysteine product to preserve [4,5] intracellular homeostasis of oxidative stress. GGT is predominantly used as a diagnostic marker for liver disease, latent elevations in GGT are typically seen in patients with chronic viral [6] hepatitis infections often taking 12 months or more to present.

Assessment of Serum Enzymes Gamma Glutamyl Trasnferase, Aspartate Transaminase and Alanine Transaminase in Liver Diseases
Back Ground:Liver diseases are common disorders encountered in clinical practices. Investigations in liver diseases are used to detect hepatic abnormality, to measure its severity, to define it structural effect on the liver, to look for specific causes of liver diseases, assess prognosis and to evaluate therapy. Aim and Objectives:To study and compare the altered serum levels of enzymes GGT, A...
متن کاملSerum fibronectin levels in acute and chronic viral hepatitis patients.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the serum fibronectin (FN) levels and liver enzyme activities in patients with acute hepatitis (A, B, C) and chronic viral hepatitis (B, C); determine whether the virus types correlated with disease severity; and assess whether FN could be used as a marker of virus type or disease severity in patients. METHODS A total of 60 subjects were enr...
متن کاملChronic Alcohol Consumption Affects Serum Enzymes Levels in the HIV-Infected Patients on Stavudine (d4T)/Lamivudine (3TC)/Nevirapine (NVP) Treatment Regimen
Chronic alcohol use is a common problem globally among the HIV-infected patients on ARV treatment regimens, leading to severe liver damage and increase in serum enzymes. The study determined effect of chronic alcohol intake on serum enzymes (alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT)) in HIV-infected patients on d4T/3TC/NVP treatment regime...
متن کاملLarge-scale analysis of factors influencing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and its relationship with liver enzymes.
Serum liver enzyme levels are often used effectively for the evaluation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We aimed to investigate the associations between serum liver enzyme levels and risks for NAFLD in over 8000 cases in a large-scale analysis. A cross-sectional survey with multiple stages and random samplings was performed from May 2007 to May 2009 on 8102 workers at Tongji Univer...
متن کاملBiochemical markers of alcohol abuse.
Excessive alcohol consumption is a major health problem in the UK leading to both serious morbidity and mortality. This study compared newer potential biochemical markers of excessive alcohol consumption [carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT), mitochondrial AST (mAST) and alpha glutathione-s-transferase (alpha-GST)] with conventional markers (AST, ALT, GGT, MCV). Patients (n = 85) were enrol...
